You will always be able to find a job whether it is fixing the equipment or operating it. There is also a lot of diversity; you can work on many types of equipment like loaders, skid steers, backhoes and even skidders.

A good friend of our family originally gave me the idea to pursue a career as a service technician. They also informed me about the sponsored "Forging the Future" program in which I am currently enrolled. Advice? You will need a two year AAS degree in Diesel Technology to get you moving on the right path. From there the company you will work for will supply further educational instruction and direction.

My passion for mechanics is such that whenever I was around mechanical things I wanted to learn more. My brother and stepfather work with their hands and I like that kind of work. I attended a high school where I was not allowed to take the automotive or welding classes. I guess I never gave up and pursued mechanical training. I enrolled at AVTEC - Alaska's Institute of Technology as it was the closest place that offered a quality program.

I love problem solving and applying what I have learned to real world situations. After growing up around farm tractors and trucks I decided diesel was the way to go for me. It is extremely satisfying to be able to apply what I learn in the classroom to real-life scenarios. I take pride in my work both in school and at a job and put my best effort towards a satisfactory product. I realize that the quality of my work reflects on the type of person I am.
